Baidu Inc. – China’s Search Behemoth

Baidu Inc. is the largest Internet search engine in China and the second largest search engine in the world. Popularly known as China’s Google, the company is one of China’s three biggest Internet companies, together with Alibaba Group and Tencent, collectively known as BAT. Baidu was established in 2000 by Robin Li and Eric Xu. It currently has offices in Brazil, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Egypt, Japan and the United States.

The company’s Chinese language search platform on its Baidu.com website enables users to find information online in the form of images, videos, multimedia files, news, translations and other useful functions, as well as global mapping service Baidu Maps. It offers 57 search and community services including Baidu Baike (an online, collaboratively built encyclopedia) and a searchable, keyword-based discussion forum.

Baidu’s other key offerings include Baidu Brain (the company’s AI-based artificial neural network), Baidu Cloud (the company’s cloud arm), Baidu App Store (online digital distribution network), Baidu Music (music service), Baidu News Feed (news service), and Baidu Waimai (food delivery service).
